Crackberry Leaks BlackBerry Desktop Manager 7 Beta – no keycode required!

Leaked: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 7 Beta - no keycode required!

A new beta version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager appeared in the BlackBerry Beta Zone a while ago, and while it required a keycode in order to make use of it — some folks didn’t really feel as though the application should be restricted. As such, OpenSourceBB memebers have gone ahead and released version with the keycode requirement stripped out of the app. Now, everyone who wishes to try out the BlackBerry Desktop Manager 7 Beta can do so. Remeber that beta tag though folks, expect some bugs.

Many 3rd Party Apps Working with New Playbook OS and Blackberry Bridge Update

With the latest OS update today v1.0.7.2942 Readers have been noticing several of the apps working through Bridge without WiFi with this latest update, although not all of them are it seems that most are. It is nice to see that I can submit my scores and check the weather when no wifi is available now and not need to use the bridged browser.

We do know App World and Kobo are currently not able to do this.

We do know these app are capable.
The WiFi Web Browser
BlackBerry News
Cassandra Stand
Tweet Search
Many app that have web based leader boards or rankings are also working.

This list could be endless it appears but it is nice to see native and 3rd party apps working without wifi and taking advantage of the internet while being bridged.

Special thanks to Will and Randy and others who sent stuff in, if you care to share anything else, please leave a comment with this post or chat it up  in our forums about what you’ve noticed.

To test this out, simple turn off your wifi on the PlayBook and turn on bluetooth, then open an app that uses an internet connection and see how it goes.

BlackBerry PlayBook OS v1.0.7.2942 Now Available – Allows Differential Updates

As we suspected RIM has rolled out a new OS for the BlackBerry PlayBook today. This update to v1.0.7.2942 is not going to be really noticeable other than faster pairing and bridge use. On the other hand it adds a key feature under the hood. RIM can now perform differential updates to allow them to update only parts of the OS instead of the whole thing. That way we have smaller downloads and faster updates.

The main noticeable features are:

  • Improved Wi-Fi® connectivity to WEP networks
  • Faster pairing between a BlackBerry smartphone and BlackBerry PlayBook tablet via the BlackBerry® Bridge™ app, and faster attachment opening via BlackBerry Bridge.

Otherwise everything else is mostly bug fixes. RIM clearly states that this update lays the groundwork for future updates by saying “differential updates feature will also come in handy as we prepare for more feature-packed BlackBerry Tablet OS updates later this year. =D”

Free Tetris for the BlackBerry PlayBook Updated to v2.2

272469 272466 272468

I have no idea what is new in this update but after the upgrade Terrence let us know that EA Games free Tetris has been updated. The app went from v2.1 to v2.2 with no change log. My guess is it has something to do with OS compatibility since AIR and Flash have been updated but it could improve the game. Let us know what you find!
