RUMOR BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 Launching Publicly on February 21st

PlayBook 2.0

We told you last month that the PlayBook OS 2.0 was launching on February 17th but it looks like regular users will have to wait a tad longer. I have been hearing both the 17th and 21st dates for almost a month now from sources and more of them are pointing towards a February 21st launch date which is also what Lucas @N4BB is hearing. As far as we have been able to piece together the February 17th date was a peg on the calendar that RIM set in October of last year. That date never made sense to me since it is a Friday which would mean that RIM support would be very thin for the biggest PlayBook OS update since the device launch but RIM has never been predictable.

That lead to the next possible launch date which was the 20th. As many of you know the 20th is a national holiday in the US, Presidents Day, which means that many of RIM’s largest customers and support personnel would once again be unavailable. That seems to be the reason RIM has decided to aim towards February 21st for this huge launch since February 17th would leave them with 3 days of limited support.

I hope you all have a fun Tuesday planned with loads of “Check for Updates” button mashing! This is still not in any way a publicly confirmed launch date from RIM but many of you have been asking us for the latest update.
