Twitter and Facebook Apps Coming to Playbook

I have heard rumblings that RIM is working on native Twitter and Facebook apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Now we have documented proof of it courtesy of their latest document on the BlackBerry PlayBook Security Technical Overview. It details that there will be the following applications that run in personal mode instead of work mode:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Maps application
  • YouTube
  • Applications that a user downloads and installs on the tablet

I am not sure if that means RIM will also be porting BlackBerry Maps to the BlackBerry PlayBook but it is an obvious fit. Especially if it worked over Bridge mode! I am not sure if the YouTube app refers to the current one or a future one that will also allow you to upload to YouTube otherwise I see no reason for them to restrict it to “Personal Mode.”

Let us know if you spot anything else! I am hoping for RIM to create a Google Talk and News Feeds app too!

  1. Doesn’t really make much sense, just using the web Facebook works great already which is fully featured. Personally I think instead of having to make an app for everything just simply update websites (and its happening at moderate speed) to be more touch practical.

    • i totally agree, using the web browser for facebook on the playbook is great. i have to say twitter does need or at least they have to catchup to all of the other twitter app out there.
